The blue planet
Every ecosystem on this planet is an aquatic ecosystem. We all are aquatic creatures.
Every ecosystem relies on biological processes and organisms, chemical reactions and substances and external inputs such as light.
Aquaristics means a closed water container (aquarium) filled with water and living organisms in the water. Where the water touches the glass, there is surface area for bacteria and other organisms to live. These organisms process various chemical and biological substances in the water column. The water is the machine which transports everything soluble and solid according to the strength of the current.
After 25 years of study, I regard water as a form of a machine, a roboter or mechanism that can be used. Water itself can also be seen as an organism or a specific world. This unique chemical substance underlies several very special mechanisms that we don`t fully understand and use yet.
All of the following are findings from hundreds of setups and stress-tests, from lots of failures and mistakes. I dedicated my life to the study of aquatic ecosystems and their processes. I hope these words might be an advisory for all who seek the equilibrium of a complex system.
General aquaristic mechanisms
Every aquatic ecosystem, every living being uses the transport mechanism of the water. Some are stagnant, some are fast flowing. This leads us to the first of the general rules of aquatic ecosystems:
